We have been fortunate enough
to work on a number of Rolls Royce Phantoms, mostly for rear
seat entertainment systems. In the majority of cases we have
mounted Alpine 6.5” screens in the headrests, though we have
also mounted a widescreen 15.2” motorised monitor in the
headlining.
In this case the owner wanted screens in the seat backs. Though Rolls Royce themselves
have a dealer installed kit available using two 7” monitors
mounted in the upper part of each seat back, the owner required
something a little bit more impressive.
Mounting a larger screen in the upper
seat back on a Phantom isn’t possible due to the limited
space available. We then suggested removing the picnic tables
and installing Alpine 10.2” monitors in their place, using
the same motorised system we had previously employed in the
Flying Spur. This seemed to meet all the requirements, so
we were given the go ahead to proceed.
Having already proved the screen mechanism
in the Flying Spur, we were able to complete this side of
the installation quite quickly, though the decision to veneer
the surrounds in matching burr walnut meant that overall
it did take a bit longer. The DVD player was mounted under
the rear passenger seat in precisely the same way as the
original factory installation, with a leather clad drop down
door.
In addition to the cordless IR headphones
we also connected the DVD audio output to the cars speakers.
The end result certainly seemed to please our customer.
